The State of Acre in Brazil Will Change Its Time Zone on November 10, 2013

Date: 2013-10-17

The state of Acre in Brazil will be changing its time zone on November 10, 2013.

Acre, which is located in the Amazon Rainforest and Amazon Basin, will be switching from the GMT -4 time zone to the GMT -5 time zone.

Switching to the GMT -5 time zone is not a dramatic decision because in the past, Acre has used the GMT -5 time zone. The GMT -5 time zone is arguably a more natural time zone for Acre.

Acre is the most western state in Brazil and borders both Peru and Bolivia.

Peru currently uses the GMT -5 time zone while Bolivia uses the GMT -4 time zone.

Based on its longitude, the state of Acre is located somewhere between the GMT -4 time zone and GMT -5 time zone. Therefore, either time zone is suitable for Acre. But with a latitude that is closer to the equator, using the GMT -5 time zone will help provide greater daylight into the evening.

More than anything, the GMT -5 time zone appears to be the preferred time zone for the citizens of Acre.
